NRA Basic Pistol Online Class

BRING YOUR FIREARM IN A CASE, UNLOADED.

The Texas License To Carry (LTC), formerly the Concealed Handgun License.

The purpose of this class is not to teach how to handle a firearm, it is to cover the requirements, including shooting proficiency, to obtain a Texas License To Carry (LTC).

An original (first-time) LTC applicant must complete classroom training, pass a written examination and pass a proficiency demonstration (shooting). The classroom instruction may be a four to six hour course and must cover the four (4) statutory required topics:

First, read the Frequently Asked Questions about the LTC on the DPS site.

Then read the laws and statutes in the LTC-16 Booklet at: License to Carry A Handgun Laws

See LTC Qualification Course Requirements (pdf) for the proficiency demonstration (shooting) requirements.

Now start your application at the Texas Department of Public Safety - Regulatory Services Division

The license is $40 for the initial issue, $40 for each renewal (5 years), but there are also discounts. NOTE: Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If an application is not approved, the fees will not be refunded.  This fee does not cover the class, it is the license only.

You can take the course either before or after starting your application. You can sign up by clicking on the Schedule menu option.

Students should have their own handgun for this course and bring a fifty rounds of standard target ammunition for qualification. Note, if you are unsure about passing the shooting qualification the first time you can bring another 50 rounds and reshoot if there is time. If you do not qualify on the second pass we can arrange a makeup class/shoot for a minimal fee. Any sporting goods store that sells firearms and ammunition should be able to assist in selecting proper ammunition. .

NRA Basic Pistol Online Class

If you do not have your own then indicate that when you sign up and I will let you know what's available. You will then have to bring fifty rounds of ammunition in the specified caliber.
